Weekend Protests Over Keystone Pipeline

By: Stephanie Castillo
Updated: November 7, 2011
BUSINESS -- Thousands of people gathered in protest outside the White House this weekend.

The Keystone XL Project is the subject of protest. The project is a oil pipeline stretching from Canada to Texas.

Critics of the Keystone XL Project say such a huge pipeline could have catastrophic environmental consequences. Until last week, according to White House Representatives the State Department would have the final decision on whether or not to go through with the pipeline project.

The decision would be following an environmental impact analysis and public commenting period.

Now President Obama has implied he may weigh in on the matter. Protesters hope the public pressure will persuade the president to oppose the pipeline.
