SAN ANTONIO -- A football game doubles as one soldier's homecoming.

Sergeant Luis Cardenas who has been deployed in Iraq for the last year was reunited with his daughter an ROTC member at Saturday's football game.

Cardenas surprised his daughter with his coming, walking onto the field as she performed with the Color Guard. Sgt. Cardenas saying, " I'm very proud of my child holding the Texas flag, the Texas colors. And I'm very glad to be back. And I'm very happy to be back with family. "

His daughter Brittany was surprised and happy to have him home. Everyone was in on the surprise, Sgt Cardenas as hiding on the sidelines until the performance. The reunion had many grown men and football coaches blaming allergies for the tears in their eyes. It was a touching moment for everyone in the stadium.

Sgt. Cardenas says he's looking forward to spending time with his family. And his daughter saying she's looking forward to following in her father's footsteps.
