MIDLAND -- Now that Thanksgiving has passed, many people are moving on to Christmas -- and that means putting up the tree.

Still, lots of families have  a tough choice: Put up an artificial tree, or buy a real one.

The dilemma is particularly strong in West Texas, where few pine trees grow naturally. But there are options for real trees beyond the big box stores.

For more than 20 years, Oregon Trail Trees has been bringing hand-picked trees down from Oregon and providing a Christmas memory for West Texas families.

"It's a family tradition," Joe Smith of Oregon Trail Trees tells Big 2. "They almost have a party out here. They spend hours walking around, feeling the trees.  We have families that come, groups of families that pick their trees together."

Some prime reasons for a real tree: They bring a pine smell into to home, and many people say they look better.

Still, the trees are expensive -- costing about $90 for a typical 8 foot tree.

If you get a real tree, make sure you keep it watered throughout the season.
