By: Stephanie Castillo
Updated: December 21, 2011
Friends and family gathered in Houston, Tuesday to say goodbye to former Miss Venezuela, Eva Ekvall.

She died Saturday after a two-year bout with breast cancer. She was 28 years old. She was diagnosed just months after the birth of her daughter.

The beauty queen soon became an advocate for cancer prevention.

Last year, Ekvall published a book titled "Out of Focus" chronicling her fight against breast cancer.

Ekvall was crowned Miss Venezuela at age 17 in 2000.
