60 Year Old Parking Ticket Paid Off

HOUSTON -- Fifty-eight years ago, downtown Houston was a much different place, and one man was in a hurry, he had a date with the army.

Army Veteran, Dale Crawford, was parking on Milam Street so he could get to the inducting center. He was shipped off to Alaska as an anti-aircraft gunner during the Korean War.

Four years later he returned to Houston and resumed his life. In 1995 while looking through a box of mementos from his mother Crawford found a parking ticket issued the day he was inducted. His dad had picked up the car late.

The ticket was for one dollar and it still nagged his conscience at times, so he contacted the cite. The only time Parking Management can recall anyone calling to want to pay a ticket.

They say he didn't have to pay it, no one would have ever known.

Crawford paid the one dollar ticket from 1953, all penalties and interest waived.

Its a lesson in responsibility, and making good on debts.

Dale Crawford still drives and says he won't get any more parking tickets, but speeding tickets are another story.
