MIDLAND -- This year, Chevron has given a total of $2.3 million to various programs in the Permian Basin. But one program holds special meaning to one Chevron employee in particular and to the dozens of people that it's helped.

Until recently, this Christmas was looking grim for Sharon McWhorter. She has six children, seven grandchildren and was out of a job.

"I was going around town and seeing all the "commercial drivers needed" signs around town, and so I thought what a wonderful opportunity to help, especially women, increase their yearly income," Dolores Vick, Chevron.

With the help of a $100,000 corporate grant from chevron, a $40,000 donation from their local office, and a $50,000 donation from their Houston office, Chevron was able to turn Vick's idea into a reality. "So we partnered with Casa de Amigos and it's just been wonderful....the results we've been seeing," says Vick.

Josefina Samaguey is the coordinator for the Take 2 Program at Casa de Amigos, and she says, "160 clients have been served by the Take 2 program and 45 of them have actually graduated. "

Sharon is one of them. After being unemployed for four months, she says the program has changed her life. "Now, I'm able to not worry about money, saving for retirement, they have a 401K, medical insurance. I'm able to go to the doctor when I need to. I get vacation. I have a new car already. "

Needless to say, thanks to the Take 2 program, Sharon will have a very merry Christmas.

If you're looking for a job and would like to learn more about the Take 2 program. You can give Casa de Amigos a call and ask for Josie. Their number is 432-682-9701
