Midland Police found Tovorian Carter suffering from a single gunshot wound at the Park of Caldera apartments around 1 AM Friday. Carter, 25, was rushed to the Midland Memorial Hospital emergency room -- where he was pronounced dead.
The area around the Park at Caldera apartments is usually a quiet place to live. But even though the shooting was a marked change for the area, some residents aren't surprised.
"I'm not shocked at all," said Park at Caldera resident Chris, who did not give his last name. "This apartment complex is wild. I've lived here for 3 years. I've seen this kind of stuff go on. Maybe not a homicide but stuff just like it."
"I don't know if it's the people they let live here," said Chris. "But I think it's that they don't control the environment around here."
The Park at Caldera used to have a security officer patrol the area -- but Chris says that's not the case.
"I don't see any security officers around here anymore," said Chris. "There used to be a police officer who lived below me but he's gone. So I don't know."
This isn't the first time something has happened at the Park at Caldera since Chris has lived there.
"The very first night i lived here, the night I moved in," said Chris. "The next morning i woke up and a bunch of windows had been busted all in this parking lot."
Big 2 tried to speak with managers at the Park at Caldera on Friday to find out if they still employ anyone to keep an eye on the apartments -- but the office door was locked.
Midland Police still have no suspects in the murder.
