Tech Tools To Help Teens Stop Smoking

By: Big 2 News Staff
Updated: December 27, 2011
A new tech-oriented program is being introduced to help teens stop smoking.

The National Cancer Institute has a website, teen.smokfree.gov, and texting support. The institute's Erik Auguston says a smartphone application will be coming out next month.

It comes as new information shows teen smoking rates are on the decline after being stagnant for a while.

Auguston says the Smokefree Teen program emphasizes messages that teens are in charge. It stresses, quote, "We're NOT going to tell you what to do."  Teens can also join support networks on such sites as Facebook, and Twitter.
