MIDLAND -- The City of Midland is one step closer to getting a new water source.

The Midland City Council approved an interlocal agreement between the City of Midland the the Midland County Fresh Water Supply District Number 1 on Tuesday

The agreement allows the City of Midland to develop the T-Bar Ranch water field in Ward and Loving counties. The city owns the land and water rights at the 22,149 acre field.

The agreement also allows the city to build a pipeline to carry the water from the T-Bar Ranch to Midland.

Midland has an agreement with the Colorado River Municipal Water District through 2017, but the T-Bar Ranch and pipeline agreements give the city alternative water options..
