MORIARTY, NM --  A New Mexico woman is scheduled to go to trial today over a $2 pumpkin.

Defendant Lauren Medina's sister, Annette Atencio, say she can't believe the case is actually going to court and only gets angrier the more she thinks about it.

Atencio explains that her sister spent some $75 back in October at the McCall's Pumpkin Patch in Moriarty.

According to Atencio, the trouble started when Lauren picked up the vegetable in question on her way out and was approached by police.

She reportedly apologized and offered to pay for the pumpkin, but was instead placed in handcuffs.

Lauren was given the option of pleading guilty and doing probation, but she refused the offer and is now headed to a jury trial.
