Scars Remain One Year After Colorado City Fire

COLORADO CITY -- Monday marks one year since a wildfire tore through Colorado City.
"To see everything gone, all of my pictures and everything, it was real hard for a while," said Jerry Strain, who lost her home to the fire.
Strain's was one of 13 homes that burned. A year later, she's nearly fully recovered. Strain moved into into her new home in the same spot just last week.
"They just finished this, I moved in last Thursday. And I'm glad to be back in, I like my house," she said.
While many like Strain have chosen to rebuild, painful reminders of that fire still remain along Highway 208 north of Colorado City, where several homes burned. Bare lots and mobile homes are now where houses once stood. Even those who rebuilt said life will never be quite the same.
"Well I think, 'I have this,' but then I think, 'no I don't have it.' And then I think about my husband, he's not here to enjoy it," Strain said.
Despite everything, Strain said she's just grateful she's still here today.
"I'm just thankful that I got out. Because some fires you have, you don't get out," she said.
