SUNLAND PARK, NM -- A former candidate for Pecos City Manager has landed behind bars in the Borderland.

Jaime "Jim" Aguilera was arrested on Saturday for his alleged role in an extortion scheme in Sunland Park, NM.

Aguilera -- who's the city manager of Sunland Park -- is accused of trying to extort mayoral candidate Geraldo Hernandez over photos of Hernandez and a topless woman.

Acting Sunland Park Mayor Daniel Salinas was also arrested on February 25th for his alleged role with the same crime. As of Monday morning, authorities were looking for two other people in connection with the scheme.

The city of Pecos agreed to hire Aguilera as their new city manager in July  2011 -- only to find out that he had been accused of taking bribes while working for a California city in 1999.

Pecos took the job offer off the table, and Aguilera became the city manager of Sunland Park -- which is outside El Paso.
