CARLSBAD, NM -- The body of a Carlsbad child initially feared missing has been recovered from a dry well.

Police started looking for 4-year-old Samuel Jones on Saturday after he was reported missing. An Amber Alert was issued and authorities began searching the neighborhood until nightfall.

On Sunday detectives resumed the search, and one found a well in a neighbors yard.  They lowered a camera and found a body 30-feet-down.  Between the oxygen and other conditions, they quickly determined that there was no way the child could have survived.

Excavation began on Sunday and on Monday they were able to retrieve the body and confirm that it was Jones.  Investigators say they don't know how he ended up in the hole, since it was so narrow.
