Texas Mandate Could Raise Childcare Costs

If proposed Texas state mandates are put into law, they would require lower child-per-caregiver ratios.
The Permian Basin Professional Childcare Association met at Mrs. Irene's Childcare Center Tuesday to inform parents and the public of the possible changes.
Organizers say the recommended changes by the American Academy of Pediatrics would cut the current minimum standards of care-giver to child ratios in half.
Caregivers say the cuts would double the price for each child and force some centers to close.
The Permian Basin Professional Childcare Association is circulating a petition to oppose the changes.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services will be taking public comments about the possible changes on March 12th in Austin.
