Pyote Rest Area On Interstate 20 Closes For Construction

The eastbound and westbound rest areas 2 miles east of Pyote shut down Wednesday -- so construction crews can build new rest areas at the location.
TXDOT started building the new rest areas behind the older facilities in February 2011, with the older facilities remaining open.
However, construction has reached a stage where the old rest areas can no longer stay open -- since the new rest area will use the same entrance and exit ramps.
The new rest areas will open in July.
The new facilities be built in the style of the Pyote World War II Rattlesnake Bomber Base . They'll have an interpretive center, nature trails, play structures and much more.
