ODESSA -- Texas state senators are planning to meet in West Texas to talk about the potential listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard on the Endangered Species List.

A Texas Senate Natural Resources Subcommittee headed by Senator Kel Seliger will discuss the  impacts of the possible listing at a hearing at 1 PM on April 30th at the Mesa Building Multipurpose Room #2130 at U.T.P.B. in Odessa (4900 East University Drive).

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife is considering listing the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard -- which has a habitat in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico -- on the Endangered Species List.

Still, opponents of the listing note that if the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard is listed as an endangered species, it would shut down much of the oil and gas drilling in the Permian Basin.

"The potential decision by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has far reaching consequences both for the preservation of the species and the viability of an essential industry," Seliger said in a statement. "The best way to resolve these issues is with a full and public discussion by all interested parties."
