MIDLAND -- An U.S. Army recruiter from Midland is facing federal charges, after Curry County (NM) Sheriff's Deputies say he tried to get sex from a 12-year old girl in New Mexico.

The Clovis (NM) News Journal reports that Arnold Gonzales was on an assignment in Oklahoma when he went to Clovis, NM in a government vehicle.

Gonzales -- who's an Army recruiter out of Midland -- reportedly contacted a girl in Clovis on a social networking site in order to set up a sexual encounter.

However, the "girl" Gonzales contacted was really a Curry County Sheriff's Office decoy -- and Gonzales was arrested.

The Midland Army Recruiting Office says the case is under investigation, and they are cooperating with authorities.
