According to The Big Bend Sentinel, Presidio County commissioners discussed amending the Texas Water Code to remove the "Midland Exemption" from Presidio County during the August 14th Commissioner's Court meeting.
The "Midland Exemption" allows local municipalities exemption from regulation by water conservation district in terms of the the production and use of groundwater.
Presidio County leaders have tried to remove the exemption for the past several hears, but a lack of coordination between government organizations in the county has presented state leaders from making the removal official.
Presidio County commissioners now hope the issue will be discussed in the 2013 legislative session in Austin.
