CRANE -- The district and division may be new for the Crane Golden Cranes, but the way they approach the season isn't.

"I told my kids we've got to divide our season into three parts: we've got to win the preseason, then the district and then the playoffs after that," said Crane head coach Naldo Esparza.

Crane enters 3-2A division two with six starters returning on both offense and defense.

"It makes it easier on everybody with everybody knowing what they're doing," said junior linebacker Gunner Tatum.

"Our team this year has a lot of juniors and seniors on it, so we have a lot of experience," said Esparza. "We just don't have a lot of depth at the skill positions.

The Cranes may not be very deep, but this season, the team is hopeful some new faces will rise to the challenge.

"We've seen a lot of new faces out there that we didn't see last year," said Tatum. "People stepped up. They filled in some roles that were lost by seniors."

The Golden Cranes kick off the season when they host Van Horn on Aug 31.
