Officials from Yosemite National Park now say a total of nine people have been infected with hantavirus after staying at the park.

Three people have died of the rare, but serious illness.

Hantavirus is caused by contact with the urine, droppings or saliva of infected rodents, primarily deer mice.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that up to 10,000 people could be at risk after staying one or more nights at Yosemite.

Officials closed cabins linked to the outbreak in late August, and they are closed indefinitely.
