Kicking off a year long celebration of the Ector County Library's 75th anniversary, Books in the Basin is a festival dedicated to all things book. 40 authors from all over the state will be gathered in downtown Odessa. Panels will be held, talks will be given, book signings will occur. Every type of book will be represented: Romance authors, Texas fiction, Texas History, Gardening and Nature, True Crime, Science Fiction, Sports, and a full day of children's programming as well. Our featured author is Karen Valby, author of 'Welcome to Utopia.' A senior writer for Entertainment Weekly, Valby has written an excellent portrait of small town Texas and the people of Utopia, TX. In addition, there will be a Breakfast with the Authors the morning of the festival (this is a ticketed event). The goal of Books in the Basin is to encourage reading, exposing Odessans to books they may not have ever heard of, and give them the opportunity to connect with the authors of these great books, while promoting the products and services of the Ector County Library.
Books in the Basin will be held on October 6, 2012 from 11am to 4pm.
Books in the Basin will be located in and around the Ector County Library. Events will be held in the library, Noel Plaza, and Lincoln Tower. Our featured author, Karen Valby will be presenting at the Ector Theater, after which we will screen 'The Last Picture Show.'
Books in the Basin is open to the public. All events are free of charge with the exception of the Karen Valby event and the Breakfast with the Authors.
