On the flip side, the Census Bureau reports adults from families earning 20,000 or less a year had a 52% turnout.
Political scientists suggest the gap has to do with how much voters feel they have a stake.
And also, how much they feel that their vote will actually influence change.
High income voters tend to lean Republican, though CNN exit polls showed that in 2008, Obama won over the majority of those earning 200,000 or more.
The latest Gallup poll shows high income voters returning to the Republican ticket ... with households earning less than 48,000 leaning Democrat.
That leaves the middle class still up for grabs.
