ODESSA--It was a busy morning for Ector County Independent School District Friday after students reported having a gun flashed at them as they drove to school around 8:30.

They alerted officials and a perimeter was set up by ECISD police to track down the alleged suspect.

A few hours after the initial response, officers tracked down the male suspect. After searching the man's home, they didn't find any guns and ended up letting the man go.

Although the students say the man flashed a gun, police believed there was no real threat.

Friday's situation ended peacefully. Even so, district police take potential threats seriously.

"This is standard protocol with regard to any report of any danger, we take the safety of our students very seriously that is our number one priority," said ECISD Chief of Police Mark Rowen.

The school was never on lock down, but police say the first period was delayed. However, the rest of the day ran smoothly. Around 12:30 p.m. the scene was clear.
