West Texas Fire Departments Recognize Fire Prevention Week

MIDLAND -- This week is Fire Prevention Week across the United States.

In West Texas, fire departments are working to engage students.

On Monday, judging was underway for the Midland Fire Department's annual poster contest. Big 2's Stephanie Sobic was one of the guest judges this year.

This year's contest theme: "Two Ways Out."

There are four age group categories were K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th.

There are three winners in each age group category. The winners will be awarded their cash prized on Wednesday.
   
In Odessa, elementary students are also preparing posters depicting fire prevention.

Odessa officials say the winning works of art will be on display during the Odessa Fire and Rescue Open House at the Central Fire Station on October 13th.

Odessa firefighters are also set to be at Music City Mall at 7:00 PM every evening this week to preform fire prevention puppet shows.
