Florida has recorded its first death connected to the nationwide outbreak of fungal meningitis, raising the death toll to 12.

Those numbers are up from Monday's count of eight deaths and 105 illnesses.

The CDC says people with fungal meningitis are treated with intravenous anti-fungal medication.

They have to be admitted to a hospital to get the treatment.

And patients may need to be treated for months.
