MIDLAND -- The Permian Basin is facing a critical housing shortage. Now, oilman Clayton Williams and a Dallas-based group are coming together to help bring more housing to the Tall City.

Midway Station Partners, Ltd. broke ground on the Midway Station Apartments at North "A" Street and Veterans Airpark Lane Thursday morning.

Once the project is complete, the complex will have 210 high-quality family apartments.

The apartments are designed as housing space for people that are moving into the Permian Basin.

The day was bittersweet for Williams, since the groundbreaking also marked the end of a 30 year adventure.

"This is really the last tract [of land] we have to sell [at the ClayDesta complex]," Williams told Big 2. "The last large tract, and it's the culmination of a 30 year effort. So there's some sentiment about it. I'm a little sentimental I guess. And then the other trouble is where do I go next. Keep drilling, I think."

Williams also says that people who move into the apartments and work at the ClayDesta complex would be able to walk to work from their homes.

Leasing for the new apartments is expected to begin in Summer 2013.
