HOBBS, NM -- Hobbs Police are going after a brand of synthetic marijuana known as "Spice."

In the past week, Hobbs Police have made 2 D.W.I. arrests of people who were reportedly hooked on Spice while behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, officers say two kids suffered adverse health problems after smoking Spice.

In response to the ongoing issues with synthetic marijuana, Hobbs Police made undercover purchases of Spice at Smoker's Outlet (521 North Dal Paso Street) and Up In Smoke (220 East Marland Boulevard).

Police returned to both establishments with search warrants on the same day that the undercover work was done.

Officers seized $88,000 worth of Spice from Up In Smoke.

However, police say that most of the Spice products they had seen at Smoker's Outlet earlier in the day had been removed when they returned with a search warrant.

Police say charges could be filed against certain people at both smoke shops, depending on what lab tests show.
