Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker says that Robert Allen Pasquale stole a 20' tandem axle trailer, oil field valves and equipment, electrical parts and several spools of copper and aluminum wire from undetermined locations in Ector County.
Pasquale, 28, also reportedly took possession of a rifle that had been reported stolen from a Big Spring burglary at some point.
Pasquale then reportedly took the stolen items -- which are worth more than $40,000 combined -- to some property off in the 100 block of Broken Bow Road in Howard County.
Parker says that Pasquale set some of the copper wire on fire in a pit on the property around 11:35 AM on October 12th.
The ensuing smoke from the pit fire led Howard County Sheriff's deputies and Howard County Volunteer firefighters to rush to the scene.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, deputies used a warrant to search the property.
Deputies reportedly found the other stolen oilfield items and rifle on the property, along with some methamphetamines.
Deputies seized the items they found at the property and placed Pasquale under arrest.
Now, Pasquale is charged with possession of a controlled substance and theft.
Parker says that more arrests are likely in the case.
The investigation into the incident was ongoing Monday.
