TYLER -- A Midland County bullfighter continues to make progress, as he recovers from serious injuries sustained in a Championship Bull Riding event.

The family of Cody Hollums says that Hollums has opened his eyes for the first time in several days.

Doctors at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler have also slowly been decreasing Hollums' medication.

Hollums suffered traumatic injuries at a Championship Bull Riding event at the George Henderson Exposition Center in Lufkin on October 6th

Hollums was protecting a cowboy who had been thrown from a bull, when the bull stepped on him and kicked him in the head.

Hollums was most recently placed into a medically induced coma on October 16th.

The sedation was designed to allow Hollums' brain time to recover.

A fund has been set up for Hollums' benefit at Community National Bank.

If you'd like to add to this fund, please send donations to the following address.
