Gasoline is a hot commodity in New York and New Jersey in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

And some people are cashing in selling gas for outrageously high prices on Craigslist.

Prices advertised on the web site Monday afternoon were as high as $30 a gallon.

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in New York is $3.96 a gallon; it's $3.62 in New Jersey.

Pricegouging is illegal in both states.

Aside from that, freelance fuel vendors could also run into trouble for failing to pay sales taxes.

But in spite of the legal issues, some drivers may be willing to pay more rather than wait.

Consumers have braved hours long lines at gas stations to get fuel for their vehicles or power generators.
