MIDLAND -- A Midland County bullfighter who was seriously injured at an East Texas bull riding event has started talking again.

Family members say Cody Hollums has begun talking quietly and eating limited bites of food at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

With assistance from nurses, Hollums was also able to take 4 steps.

Hollums suffered traumatic injuries at a Championship Bull Riding event at the George Henderson Exposition Center in Lufkin on October 6th.

Hollums was protecting a cowboy who had been thrown from a bull, when the bull stepped on him and kicked him in the head.

Hollums was hospitalized after the incident, and he was placed into a medically induced coma on October 16th.

The sedation was designed to allow Hollums' brain time to recover from the traumatic incident.

Hollums opened his eyes for the first time in days on October 23rd.

A fund has been set up for Hollums' benefit at Community National Bank.

If you'd like to add to this fund, please send donations to the following address.
