MIDLAND -- Three people are injured after a car smashes into a sanitation truck in Midland.

The crash happened in the 2700 block of West Illinois Avenue around 9:45 AM Wednesday.

Midland Police tell Big 2 that a black car was following a sanitation truck too closely -- and the car swiped the back of the sanitation truck as it was turning into the Villa De Madison apartment complex.

Neighbors were startled by the crash.

"My stomach dropped," one resident -- who did not want her name released -- told Big 2. "I mean, my heart just started pounding. I just, I kind of panicked. My first thing is make sure everyone's OK, and then when I saw everybody coming. I couldn't get across cause they were coming so fast."

Two people in the sanitation truck were rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries after the crash.

In fact, one of the sanitation workers was immobilized on a stretcher.

The driver of the car in the crash was also taken to M.M.H. with minor injuries.

Midland Police, Fire and E.M.S. units had to block off traffic in both directions along Illinois Avenue as they responded to the crash.
