Injured Midland County Bullfighter To Be Moved To Lubbock Rehab Center

MIDLAND -- A Midland County bullfighter who was seriously injured in a bullriding competition in East Texas is now taking one of his biggest steps yet on the road to recovery.

According to the Facebook group Prayers and Support for Cody Hollums, Hollums will be moved to a rehab center in Lubbock later this week.

Hollums was protecting a cowboy who had been thrown from a bull, when the bull stepped on him and kicked him in the head.

Hollums was hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the incident, and he was placed into a medically induced coma on October 16th.

The sedation was designed to allow Hollums' brain time to recover from the traumatic incident.

Hollums opened his eyes for the first time in days on October 23rd.

Hollums has recently been talking quietly, eating limited amounts of food and even taking a few steps with the help of nurses.

Family members say that Hollums has been overwhelmed by what happened to him, but they hope the support he's been getting  -- along with the physical therapy he will get at the rehab center in Lubbock -- will help.

A fund has been set up for Hollums' benefit at Community National Bank.

If you'd like to add to this fund, please send donations to the following address.
