MIDLAND -- A Midland man will spend the next 35 years in a Texas prison for driving drunk.

A Midland County judge sentenced Byron Dewayne Hickey to 35 years in prison Friday.

The sentence came 2 days after a jury convicted him of a first degree felony charge of D.W.I.

In fact, it only took jurors 18 minutes to convict Hickey on November 7th.

According to jail records at the Midland County Detention Center, Hickey was arrested driving drunk for at least a third time on June 11th.

Hickey was also charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and violation of parole at the time.

Hickey got a 35 year prison sentence because he has several previous felony convictions.
