ODESSA -- An Ector County elementary school student is facing disciplinary action after he brought a gun to school.

Ector County I.S.D. officials also say the student -- who's only 9-years-old -- might have fired the gun off before he got to school.

E.C.I.S.D. officials say the student -- whose name has not been released -- brought the gun to Goliad Elementary Thursday morning.

Other students reportedly saw the gun in the student's backpack and told school officials -- who immediately took the weapon from him.

E.C.I.S.D. officials say that since the boy is so young, no charges can be filed.

However, the boy will face disciplinary action.

E.C.I.S.D. is investigating how the boy got the gun in the first place.

E.C.I.S.D. officials are also trying to figure out if the boy did indeed fire off the gun before coming to school.
