MIDLAND -- This may be one of the most tragic events we've had in our town and it's a sad day. I was with these guys today. We had a lunch and some of you were with us and we were able to meet the heroes. I shook their hands and saw them personally and met their wives.

It truly was an honor to be in their presence. These guys are true American heroes.

I was at the parade at 4:00pm and they passed by waving and celebrating and Midlanders lining the streets with flags and waving and... so proud of these guys. We're just all terribly sad.

The thing that's really good about Midland is what we saw this afternoon: all the people out celebrating, clapping, thanking them.  Then this terrible tragedy occurs and Midlanders kick-in and start making a difference.

For our first responders, DPS, well everybody was involved. There was a call for blood and people were lined out the door.  So there's really not a lot we can do except pray for these individuals. We'll have some more facts, but their families particularly and just lift them up. That's all I can say. We're all terribly sad.
