A set up at was set up in support of Cody Hollums at Windwalker Farms in Martin County on Saturday.
Hollums was protecting a cowboy who had been thrown from a bull, when the bull stepped on him and kicked him in the head.
Hollums was hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the incident, and he was placed into a medically induced coma on October 16th.
The sedation was designed to allow Hollums' brain time to recover from the traumatic incident.
Hollums opened his eyes for the first time in days on October 23rd, and family members say he was moved to a rehabilitation center in Lubbock last week.
Hollums is reportedly making progress in his rehab.
Friends say that Hollums was focused on doing his job protecting cowboys -- and not the potential injuries -- when he stepped into the arena.
"I know Cody knew he was doing a job," Hollums' friend Justin Sanderlin told Big 2. "It was his job. And what he had to do was protect the cowboys. And he did it very well. He did it great."
Sandlin says that the clay shoot brought out 450 people -- which is impressive since the entire event was set up on about a month's notice.
A fund has been set up for Hollums' benefit at Community National Bank.
