ODESSA -- A recent U.S. presidential candidate will be speaking in the Permian Basin this week.

Herman Cain will speak the U.T.P.B. Gymnasium at 7 PM on November 28th.

Cain -- who was a Republican candidate for president earlier this year -- is a conservative businessman who served as C.E.O. of Godfather's Pizza.

Cain is well-known for his 9-9-9 tax plan -- which would replace all current taxes with 9 percent business transaction tax, 9 percent personal income tax and a 9 percent federal sales tax.

However, University of Texas of the Permian Basin officials tell Big 2 that Cain's appearance at the university is meant to be more inspirational than political -- as he will talk about living the American dream.

The event is sponsored by the U.T.P.B. Young Americans for Freedom Foundation Club and the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute.

The following is a press release from U.T.P.B. on Cain's appearance.

HERMAN CAIN SPEAKS AT U.T.P.B.

Herman Cain, author, business executive, radio host, syndicated columnist and Republican presidential candidate will speak on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the U.T.P.B. gym. The event is free and open to the public. The event is co-sponsored by the Young Americans for Freedom and the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute.

Bobby Griego, chairman of the U.T.P.B. chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom said the biggest benefit for guests attending the lecture is seeing Herman Cain speak. "Mr. Cain was the first black Republican that was actually considered a viable candidate for president," Griego said. "I believe that what Mr. Cain has had to overcome in life and how far he made it in the presidential race makes him an admirable person and someone that anybody can look to for inspiration."

The Young Americans for Freedom is a conservative, youth activism organization founded in 1960. There are two other chapters in Texas, one at Texas Christian University and The University of Texas at Austin as well as around the nation. Young America's Foundation speakers include Ann Coulter, Karl Rove Ben Stein and many other conservative speakers.

"They are like any other organization that we sponsor that helps us fulfill our mission of offering education for or about leadership, ethics and public service," said Charles Cotten, John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute Interim Director. "We want our students to hear from various viewpoints so that they can make their own decisions."

Young Americans for Freedom is a conservative student organization that is part of Young America's Foundation that promotes the free market, constitutional rights, a pro life agenda, a strong alliance with Israel and limited government.
