The fatal crash happened about 8 miles west of Toyah on Interstate 20 around 7:25 PM on November 29th.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers tell Big 2 that a tractor-trailer was heading west on the interstate, when a vehicle that had been passing the truck on the left cut immediately in front of it.
The big rig driver swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle, but the 18-wheeler ended up flipping onto its side across the westbound lanes.
The undercarriage of the truck's cab and trailer then blocked the westbound lanes of the interstate.
A 2010 Lexus vehicle and a 2011 Hyundai vehicle then crashed into the truck.
An occupant in one of the vehicles that hit the truck -- Ronald Julius Freund -- died at the scene.
Troopers say that Freund, 75, was from Englewood, CO.
Another occupant in that vehicle -- Irene Freund of Engelwood, CO -- was rushed to a nearby hospital after the wreck with fractured ribs.
Two occupants in the other vehicle that hit the truck -- Larry Gene Ward and Patricia Anne Ward of Tucson, AZ -- were also hospitalized with fractured ribs after the crash.
Irene Freund, 81, Larry Ward, 72, and Patricia Ward were all listed in stable condition on Friday.
The driver of the 18-wheeler wasn't injured in the crash.
The truck driver's name hasn't been released.
