MIDLAND -- A gas leak forced the evacuation of a building outside Midland International Airport on Monday afternoon.

HAZMAT teams tell Big 2 that a construction company was working near the deer horn Aviation building when workers hit a gas line.

The ruptured line started leaking, and approximately 12 people had to be evacuated from the Deer Horn Aviation building.

Several other buildings were also evacuated due to the gas leak.

"We've got 9 or 10 lit pilots on our heaters that never go out, and they're sitting there, flames going, right now," Steve Evans of Deer Horn told Big 2. "So if it filled up enough with gas, it could go, 'Boom!'"

HAZMAT crews were called out to the scene to fix the mess.

After a short time the workers were allowed to go back to their buildings.

Fortunately, there was no explosion at any point.

The airport itself wasn't ever evacuated during the ordeal.
