MIDLAND -- Police believe thieves set fire to a Midland home to cover their initial crime.

Around 6:00a.m. Midland firefighters were called out to a home on the 300 block of East Maple Avenue.  There was no one in the home since it was currently being remodeled.

Firefighters managed to get the fire out quickly.  It apparently started in the front bedroom of the home, and that area suffered smoke, fire, and water damage.  There was also smoke damage throughout the entire home.

After the fire was out the owner said he noticed a 60-inch television was gone along with assorted tools and two new toilet fixtures.

Midland Police detectives are now investigating the missing items.
