CEO's Pushing to Remove HIV Restrictions

By: Big 2 News Staff
Updated: December 12, 2012
CEO's from 40 well-known companies are making a push for countries around the world to drop HIV related travel restrictions.

Some countries deport, detain or bar entry to those with HIV, and the C-E-Os say its bad for business.

One described it as global HIV discrimination.

According to the UN, 45 countries have laws or policies designed to keep HIV positive people out.
They are the countries on this map in colors other than green.

Many of those restrictions date back to the 1980s, an era when many people believed HIV could be transmitted through the air, could not be treated, and that there was no reliable test to detect it.

The US had regulations in place until President Obama lifted them in 2010.

Companies signing on include Coca-Cola, Viacom, Pfizer and the NBA.
