ODESSA--- The Mayan calendar predicts that on December 21st, 2012 the world as we know it is going to end.

Most people are skeptics, but still millions believe in the phenomenon.

Krystal Skeens is a freshman at the University of Texas Permian Basin and says that she has heard strange things from peoples thoughts on the world ending.

"I've heard the sun is supposed to get closer to us" says Skeens.  She even says people are saying there will be a zombie apocalypse.

People are stocking up on food and doing last minute things on their bucket list as well.

UTPB History professor, Diana Hinton, says that numerology has always been a big thing in ancient times.

"They thought that this would be an especially significant time" says Hinton.

According to the Mayans, the world as we know it will come to an end just before Christmas.  But this year is definitely not the first time that a prediction like this has been made.

The Mayans also predicted that the world as we know it would end in 2003.

The US government issues a statement to assure Americans that the "scary rumors about the world ending in 2012 are just rumors."

NASA has posted an entire webpage debunking the end of the world rumors an have even published a video explaining why the world won't be coming to an end.

Despite that though, millions of people are getting ready for the world as we know it to end in a few days.

Comments

The Mayans did not predict the world was going to end in 2003. Planet X was supposed to hit Earth in 2003, but Planet X/Nibiru has nothing to do with the Mayans.
