ODESSA -- A California man is accused of trying to run down an Odessa Police corporal with an 18-wheeler.

Alfonzo Mackey -- of Carlsbad, CA -- was arrested around 1:15 AM on Wednesday.

Odessa Police say that Mackey, 23 , stole a 2000 Mack track at Tesco (1526 Windway Street) around 1:05 AM on Wednesday.

The truck's normal driver reportedly told officers that Mackey got into the truck while he was sleeping at Tesco.

Officers found the truck abandoned near the Tesco moments later, but they quickly received reports that the robber had ran away and hid in a service yard at 1410 West Interstate 20.

As a police corporal was searching the yard, Mackey reportedly sped right towards him with a 2006 Mack truck that had a tanker attached to it.

The corporal jumped out of the way of the truck, but Mackey reportedly took off out of the yard.

Police chased the stolen truck for nearly 2 miles before Mackey stopped at the intersection of West Clements Street and Bankhead Avenue.

Mackey was then taken into custody.

Now, Mackey is charged with felony aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony evading arrest, felony unauthorized use of a vehicle and felony criminal mischief.

As of Wednesday evening, Mackey was being held in the Ector County Law Enforcement Center without bond.
