President Obama will nominate Massachusetts Senator John Kerry as the next U.S. Secretary of State.

The former Democratic Presidential candidate has been considered a favorite for the post from both sides of the aisle.

Word of the selection comes two days after previous frontrunner, U.N.Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration.

Some GOP leaders were angered over initial accounts Rice made about the deadly attack on U-S consulate in Libya.

They were later proved incorrect.

Kerry is currently chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and has logged many miles globally.

If confirmed by the Senate, the 69 year old would replace Hillary Clinton who plans to step down soon.
A formal announcement could come as early as next week.
