MIDLAND -- The City of Midland Engineering Services Department has the following projects under construction:

FY 2012 Mill & Overlay Project -

Beginning Monday, Dec. 17 the contractor working for the City of Midland will be overlaying the side streets along A Street. During this phase, lane closures will be used on A Street between Cuthbert Avenue and Scharbauer Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times on A Street. Adjacent streets will be closed for short periods of time; however, all properties adjacent to the work zone will remain accessible.

Motorists are advised to avoid these work zones if possible.

From TxDOT:

Midland County motorists will see some major traffic control changes starting Monday on the service roads of Interstate 20 at Highway 158 and FM 158. On Monday, Dec. 17, all four service road intersections involving Highway 158 and FM 715 will become four-way stop intersections. All traffic signal lights will be flashing red at the four intersections.

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the traffic signal lights will begin a normal red-yellow-green progression that all motorists are familiar with. The traffic signal lights are intended to improve safety and traffic flow in the area. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the four intersections during the transition. Once the normal signal progressions begin, the normal traffic safety rules for signalized intersections apply. As with any signalized intersection, accelerating to beat a yellow light is a dangerous driving maneuver. Motorists are asked to please use caution and respect other vehicles on the road.

The lights were installed over the past few months by Willis Electric of Abilene. Willis Electric won the job with a bid of $532,248.20.
