Updated: December 31, 2012
ODESSA -- A man who was recently sentenced to death in an Ector County courtroom is fighting to stay alive a little longer.

Michael Dean "Spider" Gonazles was convicted of killing Manuel and Merced Aguirre in April1994.

During November court hearings, Gonzales was scheduled to be executed on March 21, 2013.

Now, Gonzales' newly appointed attorneys are asking for a 3 month stay of execution.

Gonzales' attorneys say that they need more time to review case files and meet with necessary experts.

Attorneys also state that Gonzales was abused as a child and given alcohol from the age of 2.

Attorneys add that Gonzales suffered traumatic brain injuries, which could have affected his behavior.

No ruling has yet been made on the request.
