Snow Threatens To Cause Problems For Meals On Wheels

MIDLAND -- Snow is threatening to wreak havoc on a group that's depended on by many senior citizens in the Permian Basin.

Meals On Wheels -- which delivers hot meals to homebound seniors in need -- rarely cancels their deliveries.

However, if it snows, Meals On Wheels can't deliver the food to its clients.

Many of the drivers for Meals On Wheels are seniors, and they could get hurt if they slip on on the snow and ice.

The driving conditions are also too dangerous for Meals On Wheels drivers to deliver food.

Normally, people can check and see if school is cancelled to tell if meals on wheels is coming.

However, that policy won't work with Thursday's snowstorm, since school is out of session for winter break.

"We usually run everyday unless school buses don't run," William Graham of Meals On Wheels told Big 2. "[If the] school buses shut down, we don't run. But with school buses out , we'll have to tell [clients[ by phone or have the drivers tell them, 'If it snows we won't be there [Friday].'"

Meals On Wheels did provide some Ramen soup in their meals on Thursday -- in case they aren't able to send out drivers on Friday.
