MIDLAND -- The Christian family-owned crafts store, Hobby Lobby is facing up to $1.3 million a day in fines for re-refusing to comply with the healthcare benefits package under Obamacare.
The store is required to provide contraceptive coverage, but are refusing to do so under religious grounds.
Hobby Lobby sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in September and the lawsuit made it to the Supreme Court where Justice Sonia Sotomayor rejected an injunction for Hobby Lobby against the mandate last week.
Now, Hobby Lobby faces over a millions dollars in fines each day for not including the mandate in their healthcare.
Hobby Lobby supporters are now making Saturday, January 5th "Hobby Lobby Appreciation Day", encouraging people to come out and buy goods on that day.
Although there are many supporters in the Permian Basin, Chairman for the Midland County Democrats, David Rosen, supports President Obama.
"The people who run Hobby Lobby may be great businessmen, but from what I understand, they are not physicians" says Rosen.
Rosen says that he will be boycotting Hobby Lobby, because he believes that it goes against women's rights.
"If a woman happened to be pregnant, taking the morning after pill will do nothing to her and her fetus" says Rosen.
Hobby Lobby is refusing to provide their employees with Plan B, which is the morning after pill, and Ella, which is the week after pill.
Hobby Lobby released the following statement:
"We are aware that many of our customers have named Saturday January 5th "Support Hobby Lobby" Day".We appreciate all of our customers and look forward to serving everyone that will be shopping in one of our over 500 stores".
