Rain Comes As A Mixed Blessing To The Permian Basin

MIDLAND -- West Texas got exactly what it needed Wednesday: A good, steady, soaking rainfall.
The rain had West Texans singing praises.
"I love the rain. God is good," West Texan Kent Ivey said.
Everyone can see the benefits to some rainfall as well.
"It'll help with the dryness and the drought," 'Blake', a motorist stuck in traffic, told us.
"The benefits are green grass: Good for the ranchers, good for the farmers, good for the economy," Ivey continued.
While the benefits are enormous, there is no doubt the rain was a headache Wednesday on area roads.
It led to numerous accidents with slick roads to blame for several major wrecks in the Permian Basin that led to slowdowns.
In some cases, traffic came to a dead stop.
"The weather's nice, but it's been kind of a pain today," 'Blake' continued.
While some were seeing the havoc that wet roads can cause, others wanted to see disaster avoided altogether.
"Please stop texting while driving. Pay attention to the road," Ivey told us.
That was good advice to follow, since the rain was forecasted to continue through Wednesday night.
For some, though, that may have been a blessing in disguise.
"The rain in general, it would be nice to keep seeing it," 'Blake' said.
